Bhutan Highlights Tour- 10 Nights / 11 Days Destination Covered: Paro | Thimphu | Punakha | Bumthang | Gangtey Travel Date- November | December | January Day 01: Delhi – Paro By Flights and The Paro to Thimphu By Flights Today Early Morning, board flight to Paro Airport where our company representative welcome at Paro Airport and Drive to Thimphu Fly on the wings of Dragon to international airport in Paro, Bhutan. On a clear day, the panoramic views of the Himalaya are sensational, including Everest (if you are flying from Delhi and Kathmandu), but particularly exciting is the approach through the Bhutanese foothills and the landing, including a few steep turns to land at the tiny airstrip of Paro. On arrival in Paro you will be received by our team and drive to Thimphu by private vehicle. Depending on arrival time, we can proceed for city sightseeing or relax in the hotel. Visit interesting weekend market (Thu-Sun). Vegetable vendors from different pockets of the country come to sell their products. In the evening we will explore the city by walk or visit Tashichho Dzong, which houses throne room of His Majesty the King. Overnight in Thimphu, altitude 2400m Day 02: Thimphu Guided Tour In the morning, we will visit handmade paper mill, School of Arts and crafts (closed on Sundays, government holidays) where students learn 13 different arts used predominantly in Bhutan. We will also visit to enjoy archery match and national library before lunch. After lunch, drive pass by memorial chorten built in memory of the 3rd King. Visit Buddha viewpoint, Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the valley, enclosure where national animal, Takin are kept and Zilukha Nunnery. Overnight in Thimphu Day 03: Thimphu to Punakha By Car Drive After breakfasts proceed to Punakha across Dochula pass (3,100m). The pass offers the most spectacular view over the greater eastern Himalayas including highest peak of Bhutan. En route make short excursion about an hour to the temple of divine madman, also well known as the temple of fertility. It is fascinating to walk through villages and the rice fields. Afternoon visit Wangdue Dzong, overlooking Punatsangchu River. Overnight in Punakha Day 4: Punakha Morning, short excursion to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyel Chorten. This Chorten is dedicated to our present crown prince and for the world peace. Hike will take you around 45 minutes each way. After lunch visit Punakha Dzong built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1638 and situated at the junction of Pho Chu and Mo Chu Rivers. Punakha the capital city of Bhutan till 1955 and still the Je Khenpo, the Chief of Abbot resides there during the winter season. Overnight stay in Punakha Day 05: Punakha to Bumthang After the breakfast, we will get ready for long drive to valley of white bird, the drive passes through Wangdue, Pelela, Trongsa and Yotongla. We will enjoy leg stretch walk at Pelela pass and stop over at Trongsa for lunch. After lunch, we will visit beautiful Trongsa Dzong and further continue our drive to Bumthang. We will stop at Yatha wool weaving center which is well known in the region for woolen products. Check in the hotel, have relaxing evening after our long drive. Overnight in Jakar, altitude 2650m Day 06 : Bumthang- Full Day sightseeing Morning after our leisurely breakfast, visit Jampay Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples built in the country. This is the home of the naked dance that is still performed annually. Visit Kurjey temple, the site where the royals were cremated. One can either walk cross the suspension bridge and visit the village of Parar and Tamshing on foot or drive there. End your day with a walk passing by the Swiss farm. Evening stroll in Jakar town and try some local pancake and noodles, special about the valley. Overnight in Jakar Day 07: Bumthang to Gangtey We will enjoy the freshness of morning breeze from Chamkhar river. After the breakfast, we will escape to valley of black necked cranes and rhododendron called Phobjikha, often called as Gantey too. We will retrace our drive crossing two highest passes Yotongla at 3400mand Pelela at 3300m pass before we enter into Phobjikha valley. Visit between May to Jun is greeted with beautiful rhododendrons and visit between Nov to Feb gives the chance to see the world rare bird black necked cranes. On arrival, we will visit Gangtey Gompa, the largest and the only monastery of the Nyingmapa sect in western Bhutan. Later in the evening we will take a beautiful gangtey trail which will take about 2 hours one way, walk not recommended for rainy days. Overnight in Phobjikha, altitude 2900m Day 08: Gangtey-Paro After Breakfast drive back to Paro, Lunch stop at Wandue, On arrival in Paro we will visit National Museum, the first of its kind which has a collection from natural history to religious paintings. Visit 17 century Paro Dzong (Fortress) on foot and continue walking through the oldest wooden bridge still in use. Evening stroll old Paro town and peep into some local handicraft stores or we will provide the options to enjoy other activities while in Paro. Overnight in Paro, altitude 2200mOvernight in Paro. Day 09: In Paro Take a day hike to the ‘Tiger’s Nest’, the sacred Taktshang monastery, and have lunch at the Taktshang cafeteria. On the way back you can visit Dumtse Lhakhang, a temple built by Thangthong Gyalpo, the iron bridge builder. Overnight in Paro Day 10: In Paro After breakfast, visit to Ta Dzong (national Museum), the best place to familiarize about Bhutanese religion, customs and traditional arts & crafts. Then walk down the trail to see Rinpung Dzong (the fortress of the heap of Jewels built in the 17thcentury), traditionally this is the office of district governor’s and the living place for monks. After lunch visit ruined Drukgyel Dzong, the place of historic war between Tibet and Bhutan in 17th century; Kyichu Lhakhang, built in 7th century during the reign of first Tibetan king. Evening leisure walk in Paro mini town. Overnight in Paro. Day 1 Paro Fly Paro Fly to Paro, Bhutan, on Druk Air, the national airline of Bhutan. If you get a seat on the left side of the plane and if weather permits, you may have spectacular views of the high peaks of the Himalayas including the highest Mt. Everest 29,021ft. After visa formalities at the Paro airport , you are met by our Bhutanese guide and transferred to your hotel in Paro to provide you some rest. Later, in the evening your guide will take you to a tiny Paro town for orientation with the place and people. Overnight Stay. Day 2 Paro After breakfast at your Hotel get ready for Excursion to Tiger Nest Monastery Your hike this morning is to the site of Taktsang Monastery meaning Tiger’s nest, tragically wrecked in a fire of early 1998. Themonastery, which has now been rebuilt, is perched some 2,000ft600m up on a sheer cliff overlooking the valley and was said to be where the legendary Indian saint, Guru Padmasambhava, flew from Tibet on the back of a tiger todefeat five demons, who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan.. The hike is about 1 & 12 hours to the teahouse, from where you may either opt to go further uphill to the monastery for about 1 hour. Lunch is served at the tea house with the majestic views of Taktsang above and the Paro valley at the bottom. The return trek to the road head is downhill and takes about a little more the time it has taken you to come up. Arrive in Paro and visit a typical Bhutanese villagehome. This visit will certainly provide you an insight on living style ofBhutanese villagers. Certain cooking demonstration will be performed for you to get idea on how Bhutanese delicacies like BUTTER TEA and EMA DATSI is prepared. Overnight Stay. Or Option No. 2 Take a tour of the national museum formally the watch tower takes approximately more than an hour. Also visit the mighty Rinpung Dzong 1646 AD where the Hollywood movie the Little Buddha was shot. Time permitting visit the oldest Buddhist temple of kyichu Lhakhang 7th century and dungtse temple 15th century. Overnight Stay. Day 3 Paro - Thimphu Thimphu After breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we drive an hour to the capital city of Thimphu the only capital city in the world without traffic lights. The total population is approximately 90,000 increased drastically in recent years. In Thimphu you will certainly visit several tourist attractions such as the Memorial Chorten, a shrine built in the memory of the late king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Many Bhutanese people gather here to pray every day, Nunnery on the outskirts of Thimphu. You will then visit the School ofArts and Crafts or "painting school", where Bhutanese children can follow an eight year program in traditional arts, such as drawing, painting, woodcarving, and sculpture. This will be followed by a visit to the Heritage Museum, Changgangkha Lhakhang temple, national Library, Traditional Hospital and see how paper is made from the Daphne plant with cosmos flower petals and other plants. At the end of the day, we may also pay a visit to the great Tashichho Dzong, seat of Bhutan administrative and religious center. Overnight Stay. Day 4 Thimphu After breakfast you will get ready for Thimphu sightseeing, Visit the sights that you probably have missed yesterday. If you feel ok to hike,your guide will take to north of Thimphu 25 Kms north and hike to the temple of Cheri Goemba. This hike is short but steep. This monastery is the first where the first monk system was established in Bhutan by Shabdrung N Nangyal unifier of Bhutan at the beginning of the 17th century. This is quite a place and location where you will feel that you are on the roof of the world. Return back to the hotel and relax. Overnight stay. Day 5 Thimphu - Punakha After breakfast you will depart from Thimphu to Punakha Valley on the way you will enjoy the scenic beauty of Punakha Valley and see Rice Field and many more . En route stop at Dochu La Pass, 10,000ft3,048m to view the eastern Himalayas, including Bhutan highest mountain, Gangkar Punsum, 24,770ft7,550m. The road then drops down through varied ever changing forest, finally emerging into the highly cultivated Punakha valley. In the afternoon you will visit Punakha Dzong 1637 AD, one of the most impressive in the country situated between two mighty rivers basicallyknown to people male and female rivers. Time permitting visit the small town of Khuruthang in Punakha.Overnight Stay. Day 6 Punakha – Wangdue- Paro After breakfast excursion trip trip Wangdue. After breakfast you may visit a temple of fertility or Chimi Lhakhang . Chimi Lhakhang was built by lama Drukpa Kunley in 1499. He subdued the demoness of the Dochu la with his magic thunderbolt of wisdom, A wooden effigy of the Lama thunderbolt is preserved in the Lhakhang, and childless women go to the temple to receive a wang blessing from the saint. Later on drive to Paro.
